Breast Lift in Phoenix, AZ
Many women note that their breasts do not have the ideal perky shape or fullness that they desire. The most common causes of this are age-related changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations. These situations can cause breasts that once had a beautiful shape to become flat, deflated, and droopy. In other people, however, their breasts become droopy at the time of puberty, and this problem is typically related to their genetics. A breast lift, or mastopexy, improves the breast shape to reveal fuller and perkier breasts. It also decreases the areola size to restore a more youthful proportion.
What a Breast Lift Can Address
Breast Sagging
Breast sagging has several causes. The internal supportive ligaments may become stretched and lax, and the skin may lose elasticity and become thin. The breast tissue itself may decrease in volume from either weight loss or pregnancy-related changes. A surgical breast lift removes the excess skin, restores the position of the nipple, and reconfigures the breast tissue to provide a perkier breast contour.
Loss of Volume
Breast size is known to change with pregnancy and weight fluctuations. After pregnancy and breastfeeding or after weight loss, the breasts will often appear flat and deflated. Many women note that they are no longer able to fill out their own bra. A breast lift can restore a more youthful shape, but an implant may be required to restore lost volume.
Decreased Confidence
Drastic changes in the appearance of the breasts can affect how a woman views herself. The breasts are often seen as a symbol of beauty, and when they begin to look less than perfect, many women begin to feel self-conscious about their appearance. This is especially the case with breast sagging. A breast lift can restore a youthful figure and help a woman feel more positive about her body shape.

Procedure Options
The approach used during each procedure is dependent on the degree of sagging, specific breast anatomy, and desired treatment goals.
For Mild to Moderate Ptosis
- The crescent breast lift technique is appropriate for very mild sagging and those who need only a slight lift. A crescent-shaped incision is made just above the areola to slightly pull up the remaining skin and tissue.
- A circumareolar breast lift is performed to address mild to moderate ptosis. The incision is made around the areola, so scarring is virtually invisible. This technique is also appropriate for patients who wish to reduce the size of the areola.
For Moderate to Severe Ptosis
- A vertical lift, or lollipop lift, will correct more moderate ptosis. Dr. Boll will make an incision around the areola and down the center of the breast (resembling a lollipop). This incision provides her greater access to the breast tissue and the ability to reshape the breast and decrease the size of the areola.
- The anchor, or inverted-T, technique is similar to the vertical lift in its incision sites but also includes an incision across the inframammary fold. This provides a very powerful lift and tightening of the breast.
Concerns
Recovery
It is not uncommon to experience discomfort after the procedure. Swelling and bruising are typical side effects, but these are temporary and subside after a few days. Pain medication will be prescribed to help manage any pain. Normal daily activities may be resumed after a week or so, but strenuous activities should be avoided until cleared by Dr. Boll.
Scars
Each breast lift technique uses different incision sites. While some scars are more easily concealed, others may be more visible. Scares tend to fade over time, though they will not completely disappear. Dr. Boll will recommend scar therapies as needed to provide the best outcome.
Cost
The procedure cost can depend on multiple factors. It is primarily determined by the specific procedure performed, but Dr. Boll will provide a clear price estimate during the pre-surgical consultation appointment.
Pain
Dr. Boll will prescribe pain medication to help mitigate post-surgical discomfort. Any pain felt will subside after the first several days, though some residual soreness may remain. Our office should be notified of any concerns about excessive pain.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the risks associated with a breast lift procedure?
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with breast lift surgery. These may include:
- Negative response to anesthesia
- Excess bleeding
- Infection
- Changes in nipple and breast sensation
- Breast asymmetry
- Poor healing of incision sites
Can a breast lift be combined with other breast procedures?
Absolutely! A breast lift adjusts the position of the breasts on the chest. Patients who desire to change the size of their breasts can combine a lift with a breast reduction or augmentation, depending on the size shift desired. A breast lift can also be combined with other procedures; many patients will include a tummy tuck or liposuction as part of a Mommy Makeover. It’s important to note that any additional procedures will change cost and recovery time.
How long will my results last?
Breast lift results are long lasting but not immune to any major shifts in weight or natural aging. Should you gain or lose weight, your breast size may change and cause your breasts to begin sagging again. Heavy or large breasts are prone to become droopy faster than smaller breasts.
Am I a strong candidate for a breast lift?
If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your breasts and wish them to be positioned higher on your chest, you are likely a good candidate for a breast lift. Additional factors that can determine whether breast lift surgery is appropriate for you include your personal health, your willingness to lead a healthy lifestyle, and your expectations for the procedure. During your consultation with Dr. Boll, she will determine if a breast lift is the right procedure for you.
