A Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures that work together to help you regain the figure you had before the birth of your children. However, since everyone’s body changes differently during pregnancy and childbirth, not all women benefit from—or require—the same procedures. Selecting which procedures to include with your Mommy Makeover can seem overwhelming, but you are not alone. Many women choosing to undergo a Mommy Makeover are unsure of which techniques will help them the most.

Breast Augmentation

During pregnancy, breasts get significantly larger than they were before. This is a response to the developing milk ducts that will allow you to breastfeed—should you choose to do so.

However, once you stop breastfeeding, your breasts will lose that additional volume, returning to their previous size (or thereabouts), appearing saggy and deflated. Breast augmentation surgery uses implants to restore breast volume and shape.

This technique is commonly performed along with a breast lift to eliminate sagging and restore a perkier breast projection.

Patients can return to work one week after breast augmentation surgery.

Breast Reduction

While many women are left with deflated breasts after childbirth, some breasts never return to their original size. Women who are left with overly large breasts after pregnancy and childbirth may benefit from breast reduction surgery. Overly large breasts can be painful and make your body appear larger than it is. A breast reduction reduces breasts to a proportional, more comfortable size.

Women can return to work within seven to ten days after their breast reduction.

Tummy Tuck

Your stomach goes through a lot during pregnancy. Your skin stretches to fit your growing baby, and afterward, it may not bounce back completely.

Many women are left with sagging abdominal skin after pregnancy that gets in the way of their once slim, sculpted figure. Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, works to reduce sagging abdominal skin, which creates a thin, contoured appearance.

Tummy tuck surgery can also help with women suffering from diastasis recti, a common post-pregnancy condition that results from the abdominal muscles splitting (due to your expanding uterus). Diastasis recti is characterized by pockets of “wrinkled” abdominal skin and a belly “pooch” that cannot be treated without surgery.

After your tummy tuck, you will need to take two to three weeks off work and other obligations.

Liposuction

Even with a strict diet and exercise routine after giving birth, you may still experience stubborn fat deposits in various areas of your body. Liposuction can be performed to reduce the size of fat cells, creating a slimmer body contour. Liposuction is most commonly performed on the abdomen, waist, thighs, neck, arms, and back.

Liposuction recovery varies between patients, depending on the extent of your procedure.

Labiaplasty

Unfortunately, pregnancy and childbirth can cause unwanted changes to a woman’s genital area. Some women are left with an enlarged labia minora after having a baby that is uncomfortable and unattractive. Labiaplasty surgery works to reduce the labia minora to a more comfortable, pleasing size.

Light activities can be resumed one week after surgery.
